International Day 2014

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE REMARKS BY AMBASSADOR RAMADHAN M. MWINYI,
DEPUTY PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF THE UNITED REPUBLIC OF TANZANIA TO THE UNITED NATIONS,
DURING THE ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL DAY OF CULTURAL DIVERSITY,
AT RAZI SCHOOL, MARCH 7, 2014

"It is my profound pleasure to represent the Tanzania at this auspicious Annual International Day."

"The parade of Nationas is a true manifestation of the cultural diversity that exists in your excellent school. Razi School draws students from several nationalities and cultures. I truly admire this richness of cultural diversity which is something we must celebrate and feel proud about.

The world is undergoing a period of immense difficulties with unprecedented levels of inequalities, growing extremism, religious and cultural intolerances to name but a few. These challenges are affecting our collective ability to confront a myriad of challenges such as extreme poverty, diseases and climate change." However, "There is a great saying that together we stand, and divided we fall. You have just demonstrated how strong our cultures can be, when we all participate.

Tolerance is very important in all our dealings. We need cultural tolerance, just as much as religious tolerance. As an Islamic school, I should stress that Prophet Mohammed’s S.A.W core message was based on love, social justice, understanding, equality and most importantly tolerance.

It is thus very important to follow the teachings of Islam and preach about cultural and religious tolerance. I know your school is doing just that, hence the Annual International Day of Cultural Diversity."

Tanzania "believes that love, social justice, understanding, equality and tolerance are universal values which are not confined to one faith or religion. We further believe that, these values unite rather than divide us."

Continue to respect, value and love one another and promote intercultural dialogue and understanding, diversity and inclusion here in school, at home and in other gatherings. You can play a little put but together we can create a peaceful and tolerant world where opinions and beliefs as well as values of each and every one of us are heard, respected and tolerated.

I wish you the very best of luck in your studies and future endeavours.

I thank you for your kind attention.
